Five Words

I walked down the gate to board my plane. Stepping onto the plane I smiled at the stewardess who was greeting all the passengers as they boarded. And then suddenly I realized I knew her, she had the same realization at the exact moment.  It had been years since we last saw each other and we were both excited to catch up…but it was a full flight and there was a line of people behind me. We exchanged quicks hellos and then she said: “In five words tell me about your life and what you’re up to.” Without even a second to think about my answer, I said, “Family, marriage, kids.” And then headed towards my seat.

Walking down the narrow aisle looking for a place to stash my carry on, I thought about that…five words to describe my life. I liked the question and the challenge to sum up your life using only five words. What five words would you use to portray your life? What five words would you use to tell someone that you haven’t seen in years about yourself? What five words would you like to describe your life even if they’re not an honest representation of your life yet? Would your five words form a sentence or would it be a list of words?

Maybe because I’m finally reaching the milestone of 40 years old in two weeks, I’m biologically triggered to be thinking about life and not so much the meaning of life, but the meaning of my life.

What do I want my life to be? What do I want to create with my life? How do I want to live my life?

What five words would you use to describe your life?
